The resignation of Rahul Johri, the Chief Executive Officer of the BCCI, was accepted on Thursday after a long time. Top officials of the board have maintained silence in the matter. But a senior official told PTI that it has now decided to accept the resignation of Rahul Johri.
Rahul Johri resigned on December 27. It is still a mystery why the board has suddenly decided to accept his resignation. Rahul Johri joined the board in 2016 and his agreement was till 2021. But he decided to resign just after Sourav Ganguly became board president.
“His resignation was accepted today (Thursday). He had officially handed his resignation some time ago but due to Covid-19, the board didn’t take a decision as BCCI wondered how he would find a job in these times. However, the board now has released him with immediate effect,” an official told to PTI
In 2016, when Rahul Johri became the CEO of BCCI, the post of Chairman was with Shashank Manohar. Recently, Shashank Manohar has also resigned from the post of ICC President. It is worth noting that before becoming BCCI CEO, Rahul Johri was the secretary of Union Minister and former BCCI President Anurag Thakur.
Earlier in February this year, there was news of his resignation, but there was no official confirmation at that time. Then there was no statement from the board nor from the Rahul regarding his resignation.
A year ago, a woman also accused Rahul Johri of the exploitation. However, later an investigation committee gave a clean chit to him. Rahul Johri had a tenure as BCCI CEO until February 2021.
