One of the key reasons why Zampa has not received his maiden Test cap till now is that Australia has pace-friendly wickets. The home team prefers to have only one spinner in the playing XI. While playing in subcontinental conditions, they use Nathan Lyon and Ashton Agar as their prime spin bowlers.

Zampa feels that now is the right time to sharpen his skills because he may never receive an opportunity if he misses out now.

Adam Zampa wants spin-friendly Test wicket in Australia

Talking to reporters amid the Coronavirus pandemic, the leg-spinner made his intentions clear and said:

“I think that’s still my ultimate goal, to play red-ball cricket, to play Test cricket for Australia. I think you’d be silly if you didn’t take your chance as a spinner in Australia at the moment. So that’s the ultimate goal.”

When asked if Cricket Australia should have more spin-friendly wickets in the country, Zampa replied:

“Personally, I’d love to see that obviously as a spin bowler. There’s a lot said about bowling on flat wickets but I think Nathan does that really well himself. I think realistically us other spinners are going to be partnering Nathan in the upcoming subcontinent tour. I don’t really know what it’s like to bowl on a spinning wicket in Shield cricket. The closest thing I’ve ever had to a spinning wicket in Shield cricket is Adelaide Oval when it’s green and thatchy.”

Thus, apart from Adelaide, Zampa feels that Australia needs more spin assisting pitches.
