The current captain of Kings Xi Punjab is traded with Delhi Capitals for the upcoming IPL season in 2020 as per the reports. Ravichandran Ashwin was bought by the KXIP in IPL 2017 mega auctions.
He was then appointed the captain of the team. But Kings XI Punjab didn’t perform very well under his captaincy. Kings XI Punjab finished 7th in IPL 2018 and 6th in IPL 2018.
Anil Kumble earlier denied the rumors
Earlier when Anil Kumble was appointed as the new head coach of Kings XI Punjab, rumors started about the future of Ashwin in Kings XI Punjab. Then Anil Kumble also expressed the uncertainty on the future of Ashwin and he quoted –
“There is no decision that has been taken yet. I have just come on board, in the last one week. We will know in the due course the decisions we are going to make. I haven’t got down to the details of the squad. The players we are going to retain, the players we are going to trade, none of those areas have been looked into,”
Official confirms the deal of trade
And now as per the reports suggest that deal on Ashwin to trade from KXIP to DC are completed. As per reports Ravichandran Ashwin is traded for players, but it still needs an official announcement.
Speaking to the IANS, an official from Delhi capitals confirms the transfer news and says it will be announced soon.
“Yes, it is done and we will announce soon,” the official said.
Future of Captain of Kings XI Punjab?
Ravichandran Ashwin’s transfer from Kings XI Punjab to Delhi Capitals raises a big question that who will be the captain of the team in the next seasons. And as per reports it look likes that KL Rahul may be given this big responsibility.
The stint of appointing Ravichandran Ashwin as the captain of Kings XI Punjab didn’t change the team’s performance in the last 2 years. So it might be now a good move for the KXIP to give the responsibility of the captaincy to some other players. Whereas Delhi Capitals will become stronger after the inclusion of Ravichandran Ashwin in the team.
