No decision has yet been taken regarding the 13th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The 13th season of the IPL was to be played from 29 March to 24 May. But due to the Covid-19 epidemic, it is currently postponed for an indefinite period.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has also not yet officially given a statement regarding its new schedule. Meanwhile, some media reports are claiming that the IPL 2020 is to start from September 26.
Media reports said that the board is thinking of organizing the IPL from September 26. Recently, BCCI President Sourav Ganguly had said that the IPL can be organized in the empty stadium amid the threat of the Covid-19 epidemic. On Tuesday, Cricket Australia said that it seems impossible to organize the ICC T20 World Cup this year.
IPL 2020 starting date
According to Mumbai Mirror, IPL can be held between late September to early November. It can be played between 26 September to 8 November. These dates are subject to change in case of postponement or cancellation of the T20 World Cup in Australia.
Matches in Chennai and Bengaluru
If the IPL starts in September, then matches will be held in South India. Because at that time there will be no monsoon. Therefore it is possible that all the IPL matches can be held in Chennai and Bengaluru.
The BCCI’s priority was to make the matches in Mumbai. But the way in which cases of coronavirus infection have come up in Maharashtra, especially in Mumbai, there is hardly any chance to held matches there. If conditions improve, matches can be held in Mumbai.
