The streets have named after legendary cricketers like Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli in Melbourne to attract Indian buyers in Australia. The roads in this city have named “Tendulkar Drive” and “Kohli Crescent”. Along with this, a road has also named “Dev Terrace” after the name of Kapil Dev who won the 1983 World Cup.

The streets in Australia also includes the name of other cricketers. Apart from Indian cricketers in the city, the streets are named after players like Australia’s Steve Waugh (Waugh Street), West Indies Gary Sobers (Sobers Drive), New Zealand’s Richard Hadlee (Headlee Street), and Pakistan’s Wasim Akram (Akram Way) went.

Bradman’s name not approved

Resi Ventures director Khurram Saeed said,

“there were 60 names submitted to the council for approval including a street named after the great Don Bradman but the body refused it as there was already a street named after him in Melbourne”.

Road to the most expensive area named after Virat Kohli

Khurram added,

“We did get Tendulkar and Kohli over the line with the council. Kohli is one of my favourite batsmen of the current era and I named the most expensive street after him, overlooking the future wetlands”.

he further added,

“We didn’t get Kumar Sangakara, Rahul Dravid, MS Dhoni and a few others as council knocked them back for one reason or another”.
