In case you forgot, the Men in Blue had played two consecutive Super Overs against New Zealand in the T20I series played earlier this year. The team management wished to try the talent in Samson. Hence, they gave him an opportunity to bat during the Super Over, a situation where every batsman of the world naturally comes under pressure.

Although Samson had not fared well in the Indian innings before the Super Over, the backroom staff trusted him and sent him to bat at number three after KL Rahul lost his wicket. The pressure was very high because if the Kerala-based batsman would lose his wicket, India would have lost the game.

Batting for India in Super Over is one of my greatest achievements: Samson

Fortunately, he did not get the strike, and skipper Virat Kohli finished off the game with his trademark style. Talking about the Super Over on The Royals Podcast, Samson said:

“When you’re involved with the greatest cricket team and when you are surrounded by the greatest players like Virat bhai, Rohit bhai, they consider you as a very good batsman and they trust you. Even though I did not play a ball in the Super Over, It was a great achievement that they trusted my ability to win a match for the team, that was a great moment for me.”
