Ahmedabad | The third match of the four-Test series between India and England was played at the world’s largest cricket stadium. India won this match by 10 wickets. It is the 35th overall victory of the Indian team under the captaincy of Virat Kohli and the 22nd victory at home grounds. With this win, Virat broke the record of former Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni in terms of winning the most test matches at home.
Mahendra Singh Dhoni captained Team India in a total of 30 Tests on Indian soil. Out of this, 21 Test wins and 3 defeats. Whereas, there were 6 test draws. At the same time, under Virat’s captaincy, India played 29 Tests on home grounds and won 22. The Indian team just lost 2 test matches at home under the captaincy of Virat Kohli with 5 matches ended as a draw. Virat Kohli now comes first in terms of winning the most number of Test matches in India.
With the victory in the third Test match, Virat also equaled former Australia captain Steve Waugh. Steve Waugh also won 22 of 29 matches at his home ground.
Prior to this, Viray Kohli also became India’s most successful captain on foreign soil in Test cricket. Under his captaincy abroad, India has won 13 out of 30 matches. They lost 12 and drew 5 matches. Before Virat Kohli, this record was on the name of Sourav Ganguly. Ganguly had won 11 out of 28 matches abroad. With this Sourav Ganguly lost 10 matches and 7 matches were drawn.
India has won 10 Tests by 10 wickets so far. Out of this, Virat Kohli has been the captain of the team in 2 Tests. After two and a half years, India won a Test by 10 wickets. India last defeated West Indies by 10 wickets in Hyderabad in October 2018.
The final test of the series will be played at the same stadium. This match is going to be very crucial for the Indian team for World Test Championship Final. If India wins or able to draw the last test match against England then only India can book their tickets for the WTC finals. England has been already out of the contention for the WTC finals after losing the 3rd test. So England can stop India if they win and clear the way for Australia.
So for now Australia and India both have chances to play the WTC final this year at Lord’s against New Zealand who has already qualified.
