Former Indian women’s team captain, Anjum Chopra has given her views on India’s performance in the recently concluded women’s T20 World Cup 2020. The Indian team managed to reach the finals for the first time in the tourney’s history, but unfortunately, they lost to Australia Women in the finals.
Shafali Verma was the star performer for India as she decimated the opposition bowlers with her hard-hitting skills. In the bowling attack, Poonam Yadav and Shikha Pandey performed the best for the women in blue.
Their impressive performances drew the entire nation’s attention towards the T20 World Cup final as it became one of the most-watched women’s cricket matches of all time. A record crowd attended the match live at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
Anjum Chopra says the response to the team was very good
One of the most respected female cricketers of all time, Anjum Chopra took part in an exclusive chat with Sportskeeda last evening where she talked about the World Cup. When asked the team’s performance she replied:
“The response to the Indian women’s cricket team at the T20 WC was really good. It bodes well for the younger generation to have such a terrific and huge experience under their belt. Since they all have been at the highest stage already, they can work towards it for the future. Over 90,000 people watching at the stadium, playing at the MCG, best sporting personalities at the ground, best figures generated with people watching online and on T.V is the kind of encouragement younger generation needed.”
In her opinion, a lot of young girls would have received a huge motivation because of this performance. It will be interesting to see if the Indian women’s team can perform well in the upcoming series.
