Sri Lankan Cricket Team’s captain, Dimuth Karunaratne has expressed his desire to see the 1996 World Cup winners in the top 4 of the ICC Rankings. During a live session with the official website of Sri Lanka Cricket Board, the top-order batsman said that Sri Lanka should make it to the top 4 of the ODI and Test rankings soon.

In case you forgot, Sri Lanka has performed disastrously ever since their legendary players retired from the sport. Angelo Matthews and Lasith Malinga are the only experienced names present in their current squad. However, the craze of cricket in the nation has helped them keep the sport alive.

Their young team had defeated England in the 2019 World Cup, which shows that they have the potential of becoming a top team once again.

Karunaratne wants Sri Lanka in Top 4

Talking to the cricket board’s website, the Sri Lankan skipper heaped praises on the coach, Mickey Arthur and said:

“Mickey is a no-nonsense cool bloke with loads of experience to back him and his brand. At the international level planning and role clarity is a norm. What is very important is the belief he has instilled among us in his own and subtle way.”

When asking about his future plans as the captain of Sri Lanka, Karunaratane said that he wishes to see his team in the semifinal’s position at least. He continued:
