Despite the excellent half-century innings of captain Rishabh Pant (58 not out) and Shimron Hetmyer (53 not out), the Delhi Capitals suffered a close defeat by one run to Royal Challengers Bangalore in the 22nd match of IPL 2021.

This is Bangalore’s fifth win in six matches and now RCB is at the top of the table with 10 points. Delhi Capitals has suffered their second defeat in six matches and the team is at number three with eight points.

Bangalore, batting first, scored 171 runs for five wickets and then restricted Delhi to 170 runs for four wickets in the stipulated 20 overs. Chasing a target of 172 runs from Bangalore, Delhi started poorly and the team lost three wickets for 47 runs. These three wickets include opener Prithvi Shaw (21), Shikhar Dhawan (6), and Steve Smith (4).

The captain then shared a 45-run partnership for the fourth wicket with Marcus Stoinis (22). After Stonis was dismissed, Rishabh Pant and Shimron Hetmyer almost assured victory with some cracking shots in the end.

Delhi Capitals, who had won their last match in the Super Over, were required to score 14 runs in the final over of this match to win. But their batsmen could only score 12 runs and had to face a close defeat by one run.

For Bangalore, Harshal Patel took two and Mohammad Siraj and Kyle Jameson took one wicket each.

Earlier, Bangalore scored 171 for five in the allotted 20 overs thanks to an explosive inning by AB de Villiers (75 not out). After losing the toss and batting first, Bangalore’s Bangalore lost the wickets of their openers Captain Virat Kohli (12) and Devadatta Padikal (17) at a score of 30 runs only.

After this Rajat Patidar (31) and Glenn Maxwell (25) tried to handle Bangalore’s innings. But both batsmen could not take their innings too far. Bangalore scored 56 runs in the last five overs and De Villiers scored 23 runs in the last over with the help of 3 sixes in that over.

Delhi Capitals to meet Punjab King on 29th Aprils at the same ground. Whereas Royal Challengers Banglore will their next match against Kolkata Knight Riders.
