It was a thrilling day for chepauk stadium as they got to see their team playing in yellow after two years of ban.

MS Dhoni won the toss and elected to bowl first. KKR batting first gave a huge target of 203 runs in 20 overs. For KKR side Andre Russell batted like a monster. He scored 88 runs in just 36 balls with 11 sixes.

For Chennai Super Kings it was a good start from opening batsman as they added 75 runs in powerplay itself before Shane Watson got out. In last Sam Billings’s man of the match performance took away game from KKR. He scored 56 in 23 balls and Jadeja finished the things in style with a six. Here are some stats from this match.

88 Runs scored by Andre Russell without being dismissed– the highest individual innings at number 7 in the IPL history. The previous record had come in the opening match of IPL 2018 when Dwayne Bravo made 68 against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede. Interestingly Bravo had then bettered Russell’s record of 66.

88 Andre Russell’s score – the lowest ever score in T20 cricket to include 11 sixes. The previous lowest was 91* by Ross Whiteley for Worcestershire against Yorkshire at Leeds in 2015.

107 Number of sixes hit off Dwayne Bravo’s bowling – most for any pacer in the IPL. He went past Praveen Kumar’s tally of 104 sixes.

203 Target chased down by Chennai Super Kings – highest for any side against Kolkata Knight Riders. Kings XI Punjab had chased down a target of 201 runs at Eden Gardens in 2010.
